I have an odd relationship with flowers. I think they are beautiful and I love to look at them, yet I don’t have any in my house. I am not a green thumb kind of girl at all! I also don’t really like my husband to buy me flowers…not sure why. I think it’s because I’d rather get a gift that I can keep forever, like jewelry. I will admit, however, that I liked him to buy them for me when I worked outside the home, because I liked all the oohs and aahs that I got at work. 😉
One thing I noticed on our Holland America Caribbean Cruise were the beautiful orchids that they have on the tables in the Lido restaurant. This is the place where we ate most of our breakfasts and lunches. It is the casual buffet style area. And yes, there is a beautiful orchid on EVERY table!
I may not have a green thumb, but I know a beautiful flower when I see one. Are these not gorgeous?! Obviously someone that works for Holland America does have a green thumb.
These are the special touches that I enjoy while on the ship. I notice all the details that Holland America does, whether it be art work, antiques or orchids. This is part of what makes traveling special to me.
If you are an orchid grower, you might like the idea of using tiny hair clips to hold them in place like they have done below.
What kind of special touches do you enjoy when traveling, either on a cruise ship or in a hotel?
I always enjoy hotels that fill the ice bucket for you. Holland America does that in their rooms as well. I would never turn down a chocolate on my pillow either. We got that when we stayed at the Greenbrier and Trump Hotel recently.

Great post! I once arrived at a Holiday Inn Express of all places and my whole family was given little bags with snacks inside like granola bars and popcorn. It was after a long day of hiking and so unexpected and welcome! I also love when hotels leave a paper outside the room door in the morning or have good coffee in the lobby.

I like those things as well. That goody bag was a special treat. Was it in an area where most people are hiking? Smart move by Holiday Inn. 🙂

Wow wow wow!
These orchids are gorgeous, simply stunning!
That 1st picture is totally magazine-cover worthy. Love everything, the angle, lighting, texture, the subject! Well done 😉
When I arrive at a hotel room I love to find a welcome note and something to make you feel special and welcome, like flowers or a fruit basket or a chocolate on the pillow like you mention he he
A little extra goes very far right? 😉

Thanks so much, Karla! A little extra does go a long way in my book!

I've never been on Holland America but it must be nicer than Carnival if they have orchids!
Sonja Hoyt The Happy Travel Bug
I've only been on HAL, so I can't compare, but I hear they are a really nice line.

I love orchids and wow, these are just beautiful! Great pics!

Thanks! We were sitting in the Lido restaurant waiting to leave the ship and I thought, wow, these are so pretty. I had been noticing them all week, but never thought to take a picture. So I just went around and took all these shots. 🙂

We received an orchid as a thank you gift and enjoyed its blooms. Hopefully it will bloom again one day. 🙂 Your photos are gorgeous!

Flowers are always a wonderful touch. And I'm an orchid lover — I'm waiting for one to bloom now – so I find these shots truly pleasing.

So glad you enjoyed them!

You're right, the orchids are beautiful! Oh yes little unexpected gifts are wonderful to receive aren't they?
Sonja Hoyt The Happy Travel Bug
They really are! Who doesn't like a fun surprise waiting for you.

They are gorgeous, and Orchids usually have an air of luxury around them. In Luang Prabang in Laos, one humble restaurant we frequented had masses of them on display. It was spring so maybe that was why they were so abundant in L.P.
I always loved going to a particular restaurant in Hoi An, Vietnam, because for firstly the toilets were clean, and secondly because they had rolled wet face cloths on a tray to use.
You may not have a green thumb but your flower photographs are superb.

Thanks so much!

The pictures are so pretty, so are the flowers! I agree with whoever said a chocolate on the pillow is a nice treat!

Gotta love chocolate on your pillow! or chocolate anywhere for that matter! 😉
