One thing I took notice of on my trip to Barcelona was the art sprinkled around the city.
It ranges from famous artists like the Barcelona Face by Roy Lichtenstein (above) to the relative unknown (at least to me), like the one below.
Two of my favorites are Onades (Waves) by Andreu Alfaro…
and La Gamba (the prawn) by Javier Mariscal.
Why, you might ask? Well, I love the flowing form of the waves. There is something very peaceful and meditative about it. And how could you not love the giant prawn?! It appeals to my sense of humor.
I called this one the funny face because it looks like a flat face on skinny legs. But it is actually called David and Goliath. Antoni Llena is the artist. What do you think it looks like?
This upside down staircase was right outside of my hotel in Catalunya Plaza. It reminds me of the crazy stairs in Harry Potter.
This sculpture that looks like a dinosaur or dragon is actually a playground with slides and bridges. Every angle turned up something new.
I’ll end with one of Barcelona’s more famous sculptures, Woman and Bird by Joan Miro. It was originally titled “Lady-Mushroom with a Moon Hat”. Which title suits it better? Either way, it is another great free work of art on display in Barcelona. I just barely touched on the subject in this post. There are so many more to discover in this fabulous city.

I never visited this place before. Recently my father came back from his tour to Barcelona. He told me about its amazing artwork which you can see at many places. After reading your blog and have a look at your shared images I decided to visit there as soon as possible. These days I am on vacations and enjoying boston to dc bus tours. Now I decided to visit there to see these astonishing art works.

I'm kinda loving the waves. And David and Goliath does look like a flat face; pretty cool! The staircase is also very intriguing. What a beautiful city! Thanks so much for sharing at Inspire Me Wednesday. Featuring you in this week's issue.
