I’ve been on many different cruise lines and tried lots of food on each line. Holland America Cruise Line is my favorite food of them all and the Pinnacle Grill takes it to the next level. Join us for dinner as I show you the menu and our choices.
The elegant restaurant decor adds to the special feeling of this additional cost choice on Holland America. The tables are set with beautiful linens and place settings. And the service is always superb when we have been there.
Our meal started with an amuse bouche, which is a free bite size appetizer sent to the table by the chef.
The Appetizers
Menu
The Food
The Pinnacle Ocean Platter is a thinly sliced smoked salmon with jumbo shrimp and sea scallops. The little squares are cooked salmon. And the light green sauce is a wasabi cream. I love wasabi cream!!
Next up we have an arugula salad with your basic mushroom, onion, bacon, egg and tomato toppers. But the warm bacon dressing is what took this salad to the next level.
My choice was the vine ripened beefsteak tomato salad. The presentation was beautiful. It tasted as delicious as it looks.
And the last appetizer was Dungeness Crab Cakes with shaved cucumbers. The egg looking stuff is actually sweet chili-mustard sauce. Everyone was very please with their choices.
The Entrees
Menu
The Food
First up, the cedar planked black cod. It was served directly on the plank, with rice, asparagus and an heirloom tomato. Also included with this entree was shrimp diablo, which means spicy shrimp basically.
The 10 oz filet was served with potatoes, asparagus and your choice of sauces. This is the brandy mushroom sauce and it was a perfect accompaniment to the meal.
Two of us ordered the winning entree…the chef’s interpretation of surf and turf. It was a filet nestled on a bed of perfectly whipped potatoes along with prawns. The entire entree was beautifully plated with asparagus and other roasted vegetables along with a garlic rosemary beurre blanc.
Dessert
The Menu
The Food
Someone at the table must get the Pinnacle Creme Brulee. It’s like three desserts in one. You get chocolate, coffee and vanilla bean flavors. My favorite was the coffee. Speaking of which, I always order a cup of coffee to go along with my dessert. Do you do that?
If you are a cheesecake lover this next one is for you. The creamy homemade raspberry cheesecake is served with perfect little raspberries and a chocolate topper.
The fresh berries with Sabayon sauce sounds basic, but as you can see below it definitely was not. I had to order this because my son loved this movie when he was little called The Secret of the Seal and they ate Sabayon in it regularly. You can’t go wrong with good old berries. It was delicious!
And lastly, the chocolate! My husband always goes for the chocolate option. So the warm Grand Marnier chocolate volcano cake spoke to him. The butterfly cookie was a special touch. He loved it to the last bite. A wonderful end to a wonderful meal with friends.
Cruises come in all shapes and sizes. And the food they offer is a big part of it. I can’t recommend Holland America Cruise Line food more. It just seems to be in a class by itself compared to the other Cruise Lines I have been on. What is you favorite cruise line food? Please let us know in the comments
