The Location
The hotel is located in Plaza Catalunya. This is a central location for all the tour buses. Perfect for you to hop on and off. It is also right at the entrance to La Rambla, a tree lined pedestrian street, great for eating and shopping. And only a short walk to the old town. I think it is a perfect location.
The Design
The hotel has a very modern design from the second you walk in.
Red is their color of choice in most of the decorating, surrounded by lots of neutrals.
The lobby opens up with an atrium that reaches to the top of the hotel. It lets in a ton of natural light and opens up the otherwise small lobby.
Our room was on the sixth floor, which had this lovely little sitting area off the elevators.
The hallways were a little dark, but the large lit up numbers made it easy to find your room. We were in room 608.
The Room
This was the fantastic view from our room. I paid extra for a view of the Plaza Catalunya and it was worth it. We spent a lot of time in these seats people watching.
Again with the modern design and red accents.
Looking into the bathroom from the bedroom area you can see the unique design and LOTS of red.
The bathroom didn’t have an outside door and the doors to the shower and toilet were see through. This made privacy a little difficult.
There was a cool feature of this sliding wall that opened up the bathroom even more, while closing up the shower for more privacy. I show how this works along with the entire hotel in the video below.
The Restaurant
If you watched the video, you saw the hotel restaurant, Nineteen. If not, here are some pictures for you.
The hotel offered a pricey breakfast buffet every morning, but we either walked down the Ramblas to Starbucks or ate at the Farggi coffee place right outside the hotel.
The indoor eating area was cute, but it couldn’t beat the outdoor area. (below)
Cool chair, see through floor and overlooking a medieval church…what? How awesome is that? We only had an appetizer and drinks here, so I can’t recommend the food, but I would highly recommend just chilling in the area with a drink.
I love the old with the new here! What a perfect place to relax in the evening with a Spanish wine or cocktail. This little gem is why I love to travel and explore new places.
So I guess you can tell I enjoyed the Olivia Plaza Hotel? The staff were super friendly and helpful. I loved the modern design of the place. The view from our room was outstanding. And I loved the location right on the Plaza Catalunya. I would definitely stay here again.
Have you ever been to Barcelona? Where did you stay? Would you stay there again?
