Strange as it may seem, I am a nervous flyer. I know that doesn’t really fit with being a travel blogger. But ever since I became a Mom, I have been more nervous about my safety. Anyway, if I can snag a window seat it helps take my mind off of my nervousness. Was this ever a great flight for that! What amazing views from my window!
I have always been fascinated by the way things look from an airplane window. I would make a great bird! 🙂
These pictures speak for themselves. God does great work!
The one above is the very north tip of the Grand Canyon. You can see the river flowing thru it if you look closely. And I think the squiggle shapes are fun!
The way the sun shines and shades certain areas makes beautiful photos. These are things we just can’t see when on the ground. It is stunning and I feel blessed to travel and see things like this.
I especially love the edge of the lake. Totally different looking from the sky than if you were standing on the edge. Am I the only one who finds this stuff fascinating?
I filmed some of the flight and made a YouTube video (below). I also included one of my favorite Vegas treats at the end of the video. Ever had one?
So I’m curious…….What’s the best thing you have ever seen from an airplane window?
Hello Sonja,
I do love to travel on airplanes; I always try to get a window seat. Thanks for taking and sharing all of these marvelous pictures of our blue, blue sky.
That chocolate dessert looked good to me too!
Happy 1st Blue Monday!
Thank you!
Breath taking views!
Interesting pictures! Thank you for posting these. Gentle Joy
Wow what great shots, beautiful!!! I'm going to have to book a window seat on my next trip! Laura
beautiful views!
Stunning shots Sonja,
I've traveled intensively for the past 24 years on mainly long-haul flights and seen many fantastic things from a plane window. For scenery I'd chose flying into New Zealand or South Africa for their amazing scenery but one of the more bizarre things was a fox walking across Heathrow runway as we came into land!
Waving from a sunny Bonnie Scotland ;D
Happy Blue Monday!
I bet New Zealand and South Africa are gorgeous from the sky!
What wonderful shots. The view from above is truly different than from the ground.I haven't flown a lot but I do think most places in New Zealand are quite stunning, but then I'm a bit bias as I have moved there in 2006.
I can only imagine how beautiful it is. New Zealand is on my bucket list for sure!
Gosh, I fly so much, (Vancouver to England), it's hard to pick one thing. Oh I know, a spectacular fire on an oil rig in the ocean. Oh yeah, and the time the volcano was erupting in Iceland. But I think the most spectacular sights for me are the ordinary from-the-plane sights, like the Rockies, and the fjords of Greenland, and just catching the last night star or the first pink band of the sun rise. Aren't we lucky to have these experiences? 🙂
We are! And you have seen some amazing things! Wow!
Wow, amazing photos, so beautiful!
Thanks!
Wow – glorious views!
That top pic's amazing! Funnily, I'm also scared of flying – terrified actually, but it's a necessary means to an end, as everywhere is a flight away in Australia…
Thanks! And yes, we have to deal with it to get any where, I suppose. 😉
Pretty colours in your world.
Great photos. I think that the water in the 2nd one almost looks like a bird about to take off. I always appreciate when the pilots tell you that the Grand Canyon or some other fantastic site is out the window. Sometimes, I try to pick which side of the plane to sit on based on what I'm hoping to see. Unfortunately, since I've become a mom, I often end up in the middle seat to keep the bickering kids separated.
It sure does…I didn't notice that until you said something. 🙂
This flight was just me and my husband, or I wouldn't have gotten the window seat either. 😉
What an incredible view! Like you, I also enjoy the window seat when I'm traveling. I can't stand not seeing what the plane is passing over. Beautiful views!
Great photos! My best shot was Niagara Falls and Diamond Head in Hawaii!
Oh, I bet those were beautiful!
I remember seeing the Grand Canyon from the air one time, and it just took my breath away. Beautiful photos! I feel the same way about flying; get so nervous every single time, downright fearful. The window does help kinda take my mind off things.
Thanks so much for sharing on Inspire Me Wednesday. Featuring you in next week's issue.
Awesome! Thanks, Mel!
Well that was fun, thanks for sharing and I also love to look out at windows for a long time to check out interesting scenes unfolding below!
Enjoyed your YouTube flick. You had perfect weather and light for shooting it and your still photos.
Most interesting thing I've seen during flight was Lake Tahoe while flying in Air Force aerial refueling tanker plane, laying on my stomach and peering out the windows where the guy who "lowers the boom" to put gas in the following aircraft works.
That would be awesome to see! Glad you liked the video. Appreciate the feedback. 🙂
Oh Sonja, I did an almost exact post – flying to Las Vegas, being a white knuckler, but then noting how beautiful the scenery was from the window. Glad to know I am not the only travel blogger who isn't real excited about getting on a plane. Beautiful photos!
I would love to read that. Can you link it below?
Superb images. LOVE them!
It's miserable when you don't get to see the sights below. If only all seats were window seats. 🙂
That would be nice!
I love peering out airplane windows 🙂 …my husband loves the aisle seat though, which left us with a quandary before kids. Now that we have kids…I think I'll be losing my window seat to the toddler on any future air travels. Thanks for sharing!
I've been on flights when the wife was by the window, the husband was in the aisle seat…and I had to sit right in between them. I even asked them if one wanted to move and they said no. Hilarious!
Absolutely gorgeous views! I always love flying over Lake Mead on my way to Vegas, it's so pretty!
Yeah I agree with all of you guys. This is such an interesting experience to capture most amazing scenes with a camera. This article gives me a unique idea to enjoy my cheap helicopter tours grand canyon with my office team. I definitely keep all this point in mind and I’ll try to enjoy my Helicopter tour just like you. However, does anyone here have any idea for me? Please let me share!
