50’s Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios

While this may look like your grandmother’s living room, it is actually the waiting area of the 50’s Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios in Disney World.  Obviously they are going with a 50’s theme. Many of these things have graced the walls and halls of my own home growing up.  In fact, I think my Mom might even still have some of them.   To add to the experience, when it is your time to eat, the hostess yells, “SONJA…time for dinner! Mom says head to the table.  And don’t forget to wash your hands!”  So fun!

The seating area fits right into that 50’s theme as well.  Formica counter tops, bright colors and watching the black and white TV.  Yes, I did ask this family if it was okay to take and use their picture.  They had one of the cutest areas and I wanted to get a shot of it.  All for you guys!

After checking out the menu, my father-in-law said they were missing something very important…hamburgers!  He said he ate a lot of those in the 50’s.  If you want to see all the things they do offer, just click on the menu to enlarge it.  We decided what we wanted and ordered AFTER the waitress had laid down the rules.  Some I recall are: 1) No elbows on the table 2) No tattling  3) You must clean your plate.  The teenagers in the group got a kick out of all that.

My son got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans.  He plowed through it in no time and said it was quite tasty.

Several people at the table ordered the fried chicken.  It was served with mashed potatoes and gravy and collard greens.  I think you could choose another side if you wanted.  Also quite tasty!  Very crispy skin, but still moist chicken.  I don’t know why I didn’t get a picture of my sampler plate.  It had all the things above (fried chicken and meatloaf) along with pot roast.  It totally reminded me of something my Mom would have made when I was a kid.  There was a ton of food, but I managed to eat most of it because it was comforting and delicious!

With eyes bigger than stomachs, we decided to order dessert.  I wanted to try that peanut butter and jelly shake, but chickened out.  I kept with the childhood theme and ordered a root beer float.  I hadn’t had one in MANY years and was very happy with my choice.  There were a couple sundaes and shakes that also got ordered.

One of us went for the warm apple crisp.  Never disappointing!  I could just eat the crispy topping with that apple cinnamon goo and be happy.  My mouth is currently watering…

And then the big one!  Dad’s brownie sundae…a brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, hot fudge and an insane mix of toppings that included M & M’s, Mickey Mouse candy and caramel popcorn!  This is one to share with the family.

I love theme restaurants if they are done right.  And who does it better than Disney!?  While I do enjoy everything about the 50’s Prime Time Cafe, it isn’t a restaurant that I must do every time I go to Disney.
